Demystifying Acoustic Enclosures: Function and Benefits

We are specialist acoustic enclosure manufacturer, offering full enclosure solutions. But what is an acoustic enclosure?

Acoustic enclosures are acoustic chambers, noise enclosures, acoustic screens and sound isolation enclosures that minimise or attenuate noise. They are made of acoustic or acoustical materials and provide four basic functions:

– sound isolation
– sound absorption
– vibration isolation
– vibration absorption

Heavy materials such as sheet metal, stop relatively large amounts of sound and so are often used in acoustic enclosures. Sound absorbing materials usually have a protective face and are made of perforated sheet metal.

Full acoustic enclosures work best in severely noisy environments and can be fitted with access points for maintenance and operation. Partial solutions such as acoustic barriers can work well in reducing the direct impact of noise on surrounding areas.

There are many applications for acoustic enclosures and acoustical enclosures. For example, products are often used for sound dampening with manufacturing equipment, power generation devices, air conditioning systems, and refrigeration equipment. Acoustic enclosures are also used for noise attenuation with compressors and fans.

Typically, the use of acoustic enclosures helps to reduce the noise levels from industrial activity. This might include the noise from fixed plant in factories and outdoor plant on industrial estates.

What does an acoustic enclosure look like?

This is a typical industrial enclosure, but they can, of course, be varied in size and structure.

So, in the most general situation, acoustic enclosures are closed chambers, made of acoustic materials that ensure sound or noise isolation and absorption. If you’re interested in our Acoustic enclosure capabilities, please call our team today.
