How to Manage Varying Workplace Temperature

Depending on your industry or sector, you may find yourself storing sensitive goods in the workplace. Materials which may require a certain temperature and controls in order to work at maximum capacity. Food and pharmaceutical industries, for example, rely on quality heating and cooling in order to preserve stock at all times.

Often, this also means having a reliable ventilation system in place to help air quality also – especially where more sensitive products may be concerned. Complete control of an environment is often essential in these workspaces.

Food Storage

Microorganisms and bacteria thrive in the heat, making food spoilage an all too common problem. A cool, dry, space is therefore required in order to help prevent this from occurring. Ventilation is proven to help compliment refrigeration in order to prolong the life of food, especially as it prevents a buildup of bacteria or dust in the air itself.

Different foods will require different temperature storage, such as fruit needing different storage temperatures to meat. So this is important to note. Good storage also prevents the need for extra additives for preservation, making the food much more consumer friendly.

Pharmaceutical

The production of medicine can vary wildly depending on the temperature of the workplace. Exact temperatures are needed to help certain ingredient bind together, as well as to prevent any adverse reactions. Extraction is also important in these areas to prevent adverse health effects for workers.

Formation of tablets, for example, produces lots of heat and particles as hundreds are made every minute. Adequate cooling, ductwork and ventilation are required to reduce the heat and remove any wayward dust from the air in order to make the environment as safe as possible.

Warehouse Storage

A warehouse without appropriate systems in place can lead to damaged stock and irate customers. Damp easily builds up without the appropriate ventilation or heating systems, which can damage some stock beyond repair (especially if it is being stored in cardboard boxes). Pallets can also be warped in such conditions, making the movement of stock thereafter difficult.

Greenhouses

As a whole, a commercial greenhouse can be very difficult to maintain. Especially as temperatures should never really drop below 15°C for the comfort of the plants. Climate control, then, is essential for this space in order to maintain the right temperature at all times. Ventilation is also vital in order to circulate the warm air and then remove it from the closed environment. If no ventilation exists, then it is possible for your greenhouse to become too hot and kill the plants.

Overall, different workspaces require different temperatures for a variety of reasons. But, ventilation is more often than not vital in order to help maintain maximum conditions for workspaces at its optimum temperature.
