Indoor air pollution has been making the news recently due to the impact it has on our health. Industrial work places and factories have strict work regulations that they must follow in order to ensure that the air quality is safe for work. Well insulated and air tight buildings are said to be up to 50% more polluted than outdoor air, here are a few tips to improve your indoor air quality and ensure the health of your employees…
Use wood or concrete flooring when possible:
Wood flooring or concrete in industrial sectors and factories is not only easier to clean and maintain, but it is also prevents any dirt, dust or chemicals from becoming trapped in the fibres of a carpet. In a factory that changes a material in any way, for example spray painting machine parts, or sanding wood, fibres become air bourn and can settle in the carpet fibres, once trodden on or batted, these fibres will be re-emitted to the air, which could be hazardous to your employee’s health.
Minimise condensation:
If you do not control any excessive moisture in your workplace, then it is easy for mould to begin to develop in the room. The spores in mould can trigger allergies and can lead to serious respiratory problems. If you work in an environment that produces a lot of moisture, it is important to contain this, through adequate ventilation, de-humidification and controlled room temperatures.
Ventilate effectively:
There are a wide range of ventilation options that you can pursue to eradicate any pollutants and excess moisture from your workplace. By ensuring that any area that can harvest mould or hazardous pollutants is well ventilated, you will most certainly improve your indoor air quality and ensure the safety of your employees.
