How to Ensure Energy Efficiency in Your Business

Year on year, the average business uses 20% more energy than it needs. At the end of the day, higher energy costs can negatively affect your bottom line and limit your ability to expand. Implementing more energy efficient incentives into your business, in the long term, can mean you save money and ensure more productivity in your workplace.

So, what do you need to do in order to make sure your business is more energy efficient in 2018?

Energy-Efficient Alternatives

Light bulbs come in all sorts of shapes and sizes. They also come in a variety of different efficiencies, with some basically throwing away money every time you so much as turn them on. Which is why doing your research and shopping around – even for something as small as a lightbulb – can actually be a key money-saving incentive for your business. Compact fluorescent lamps (CFLs) use three-quarters of the energy of classic light bulbs, so are always a good investment for a business.

Power Down

Does your business have an effective power-down incentive at the end of each and every day? If not, you could be throwing away a lot of money due to that one room that has had its lights on all night. Even more, if you leave the lights on all weekend.

If you don’t think people will remember, you can also always invest in automatic lights. These are motion-sensitive and shut off after a period of inactivity.

Heating and Ventilation

Keeping on top of the heating and cooling of your business through the different seasons is vital for remaining as energy efficient as possible. After all, if you are heating your business in the middle of summer then you will be both losing money and perhaps this will even make your workers too hot as they work (lowering productivity). As such, knowing when you need to heat or cool your office and remembering to adapt to the seasons is vital.

Having someone in charge of the systems as a whole can be one way to ensure efficiency. That way, they can adapt the heating or cooling of your workplace on a day to day basis. This can be in addition to any normal job or simply something you do as the business owner.

On the whole, ventilation systems are more energy efficient, as they do not affect the temperature of the room and are solely focused on providing clean air instead.

Energy Audit

Have you seemingly tried everything to become energy efficient, but still find yourself paying a ridiculous bill at end of every month? Then your best option is to have an audit conducted. This way, you can learn exactly what the problem is in terms of where your money is going and where you are losing energy.
