Improving Employees Health and Wellness

As an employer, it’s your job to ensure the happiness of your employees as well as the success of your business. Employee health and safety is vitally important, as their hard work means that your business profits. Without your employees, your business wouldn’t be able to function. There are many ways you can go about improving your employees health and wellness in the workplace.

Motivation and Happiness

The happiness of your employees can directly correlate to their motivation within the workplace. If your employees are motivated, then productivity increases, and therefore your business benefits. So, it’s important to encourage motivation amongst your employees. Increasing your employee health and wellness in the workplace can be achieved through a number of methods, including the introduction of incentives and schemes in the workplace.

Work Incentives and Schemes

Some employers have incentives put in place that boost their employee health and wellness in the workplace. Examples include:

Fitness

Exercising and maintaining a good level of health and fitness can boost your mental health. By combining this with work, you are encouraging your employees to participate in such activities. Some company’s offer gym memberships up to a certain amount and others give employees a free 1 hour in the week for them to attend the gym. In addition, many businesses offer a cycle-to-work scheme, with groups of workers getting together for the morning and evening commute.

Social Activities

Social interactions and building relationships are vital for any worker. Encouraging out of hours meetups and after work drinks is a way to make every employee feel included, as well as endorsing collaboration. Organised team building activities can also work very well, with many companies taking a day out of the year dedicated to an away day featuring exercises and activities.
Reward Schemes

Reward schemes and bonuses can make your employees feel valued within the company. This is ideal for boosting productivity too; with many workers striving to achieve targets throughout the year. Not only are you giving positivity and praise which contributes to their mental wellbeing, but you’re also providing financial wellness. These schemes don’t need to be financial based, they can be something as simple as being entered into a prize draw, vouchers for restaurants or an early finish on a friday!

Safety in The Workplace

Employees need to feel safe in an environment they are visiting for several hours every day. That’s why it’s important to create a clean, safe and healthy workplace. The overall health of your employees can be greatly affected by the workspace. Clean air can reduce the number of sick days your employee takes and improve their overall health. Achieving this can be as simple as installing a ventilation system. Furthermore, the addition of greenery can improve the aesthetics of a room whilst improving employees health. Analyse your workplace and consider any changes that could be made to improve the health and safety of your employees.
