What is an Acoustic Attenuator?

An acoustic attenuator is a vital part of a ventilation system, which reduce the noise produced by fans and other pieces of equipment in HVAC (Heating, Ventilating and Air Conditioning systems).  This piece of machinery is used to ensure that the specific noise rating is at an acceptable level, making work environments safer and more enjoyable to work in.

When are acoustic attenuators needed?

Industrial processes that change the state of any material, for example sanding wood, filing metal or spray painting parts, will produce excess substances such as air bourn chemicals and fragments. In addition to this, industrial environments also create excessive noise levels, which make it uncomfortable for people who are working in the building, and can also lead to complaints from neighbours in the surrounding areas.

What are the benefits of acoustic attenuators?

Acoustic attenuators successfully reduce the noise levels in a working environment to meet the correct noise standards and environmental health requirements. This will also massively reduce any noise complaints that industrial sites may receive.

Attenuators are completely bespoke and can be created to meet any system requirements depending on the industry. Several basic types of acoustic attenuators are distinguished based on the requirements of the environment they are being installed in, for example, they can be fitted with Melinex lining for hospitals.

Choosing the right acoustic attenuator depends on several different factors, for example the type of equipment it is collaborating with and the technical characteristics of pipelines. It’s important to note that any machinery that is exposed to an environment with corrosive or harmful chemicals, which come into contact with the ventilation system, need to be regularly checked and maintained.
